Anti-Valentine’s Day Wedding at the Denver Public Library

On February 13th, the Denver Public Library hosted an ‘Anti-Valentine’s Day’ wedding event. Five couples, all strangers, joined together to begin and renew their vows in an atypically romantic fashion. Cake Crumbs Bakery donated a beautiful cake to each of the couples and there were cupcakes and other sweets for everyone. The event was open to the public, so families and strangers mingled and dined in the foyer before the ceremony. When everyone had arrived, guests were seated in a viewing room where they were all treated to the cult-classic, ‘Muriel’s Wedding.’ At the point in the movie where Muriel got married, the house lights went up and a curtain lifted to reveal an alter.

A short ceremony was conducted for each couple and, by the end, there was not a dry eye in the house. Most of the audience members were strangers out to see a movie at the Denver Public Library and were surprised by the mass wedding. It was truly a special event to witness and I may or may not be guilty of shedding a few tears myself.
